Tonsillectomy
Unfortunately, there may be a time when medical
therapy (antibiotics) fails to resolve the chronic tonsillar
infections that affect your child. In other cases, your child
may have enlarged tonsils, causing loud snoring, upper airway
obstruction, and other sleep disorders. The best recourse
for both these conditions may be removal or reduction of the
tonsils and adenoids.
THE ULTRASONIC SCALPEL - Towards bloodless
and painless Tonsillectomy
What is Ultrasonic scalpel?
This medical device uses ultrasonic energy
to vibrate its blade at 55,000 cycles per second. Invisible
to the naked eye, the vibration transfers energy to the tissue,
providing simultaneous cutting and coagulation. The temperature
of the surrounding tissue reaches 80 degrees Celsius. Proponents
of this procedure assert that the end result is precise cutting
with minimal thermal damage.
The KKR ENT Hospital and Research Institute
[P] Ltd. Is the first Hospital in South India to procure the
Ultrasonic Scalpel for use in Tonsils surgery. This machine
is the latest development in surgery of Tonsils. This Ultrasonic
machine generates mechanical energy to help in the dissection
of the tonsils.
Its “coaptive” coagulation helps in minimissing
blood loss during surgery. There is minimal heat transmitted
into the sorrounding tissues unlike the LASER and this reduces
the post operative pain enabling the patient to resume normal
activities much earlier. Intea operative time is reduced.
This lessens the risks of anaesthesia and also reduces the
hospital stay
